The Lie and The Liar

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (1John 1:8) My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. (1John 2:1)

The scene passed before me like I was one of the cast in a scripted play. I walked away wondering what had just happened.  Did I really just speak an untruth?  Ok, go ahead, call it like it is, I told a lie.  ugh……I hate that word and in the moments after it happened I hated myself.

I took a direct hit.  Me 0 vs Satan 1.  He was really beginning to rub it in.  Condemnation, guilt, remorse, you name it, I was being assaulted by it. I sat down and immediately went to the Lord, asking for forgiveness, asking how did I let this happen?  This is not me, this is not who I want to be, this is someone that is foreign to me.  It happened so quickly that I didn’t even have a chance to think twice and decide not to, I just did it!!!!!

Habits

Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets to you. They said, “Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and reform your actions; do not follow other gods to serve them. (Jeremiah 35:15 NIV)

The Miriam-Webster dictionary defines a habit as a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance;  an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary; a manner of conducting oneself.

If we examine our lives, how many habits do we have?  If you really think about it, it can become mind boggling. I guess, depending on how old you are, you have a lifetime of acquired habits that have been formed by conditioning.  The condition of your childhood, the condition of your health, the condition of your socio-economic surroundings, the condition of your level of education, etc..  The things and people that are around us impact us.  The repetitive things are the things that eventually become habits with us.

Are You Being Heard?

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2) NIV

Do you have iniquities that have come between you and God? If you don’t know you may want to start with the definition of iniquity. It is a noun, meaning immoral or grossly unfair behavior. The Bible uses this word to indicate a level of disobedience to God which is categorized as sin.

Folly’s Rollercoaster

Have you ever felt that you are being pulled into diferent directions at the same time? I have been living this way for the past few weeks feeling like I am on a roller coaster and God has given me insight into exactly what is happening.

Repentance

“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. (Hosea 6:1) NIV

Are you trying to keep something hidden or have a secret? Is there something in your past that continually haunts you? Is there a deep regret about something that you did or perhaps didn’t do when you should have? Would you like to be free from it?

Most of us don’t like to admit that we are wrong, that we have done something wrong or even that what we thought was wrong. We suffer from this thing called human pride. It’s a sneaky little thing that runs around in the best camouflage attire on the market.
