Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets to you. They said, “Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and reform your actions; do not follow other gods to serve them. (Jeremiah 35:15 NIV)
The Miriam-Webster dictionary defines a habit as a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance; an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary; a manner of conducting oneself.
If we examine our lives, how many habits do we have? If you really think about it, it can become mind boggling. I guess, depending on how old you are, you have a lifetime of acquired habits that have been formed by conditioning. The condition of your childhood, the condition of your health, the condition of your socio-economic surroundings, the condition of your level of education, etc.. The things and people that are around us impact us. The repetitive things are the things that eventually become habits with us.
“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame, deliver me in you righteousness. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue, be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.” (Psalm 31: 1-3)
You are there, I know you hear me. I know you answer prayers, you have taken care of me my whole life. My rock, my salvation, my countenance, my comfort, my peace, you are always there. I depend on you for everything. This is such a wonderful confidence. This is absolute truth and Satan turned it into a deceptive tool.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing (Psalm 23 NIV)
No matter how bleak things seem, how frightened or worried, or hopeless the enemy tries to paint a picture in your life, it is a lie.
Friends fall sick, family passes away, husbands or wives walk away from a marriage, jobs are lost, cancer enters your life, homes are lost, children go astray, cars fail. Any number of things can happen in the blink of an eye, when you least expect it and life is dealt a blow that will have some long-term implications. Believe it or not, it is not as important what happens as it is how you deal with it.
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2) NIV
Do you have iniquities that have come between you and God? If you don’t know you may want to start with the definition of iniquity. It is a noun, meaning immoral or grossly unfair behavior. The Bible uses this word to indicate a level of disobedience to God which is categorized as sin.
Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars. (Proverbs 9:1)
Have you ever felt that you are being pulled into diferent directions at the same time? I have been living this way for the past few weeks feeling like I am on a roller coaster and God has given me insight into exactly what is happening.
In the dictionary vanity is given two separate meanings 1. excessive pride in or admiration of one’s own appearance or achievements and 2. the quality of being worthless or futile.
What a contradiction in terms to show such value in one term and such worthlessness in another. This is the contradiction of life……..that one places value in the vanity of their own destiny at the hands of their own making therefore rendering the quality worthless or futile.
This is also the lie that leads so many astray. They see what is perceived to be value based upon their vanity, but what they get is worthless based upon its true essence.
“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered..” (Psalm 32:1) NIV
Have you ever had one of those days when you found yourself acting out of your norm? The slightest thing seems to agitate and you snap back with aggression to anyone who happens to cross your path? Continue reading
